Default Diablo 3 Requires Battle.net connection to play single-player!

    http://www.1up.com/news/diablo-3-req...e-when-playing

Garbagecanvision-Blizzard today announced that Diablo 3 is going to require an online connection.... even for single player, and of course there wont be any LAN. Along with lots of annoying social features that will be on even when you are playing single player.

" While Pardo recognizes that people sometimes want or need to play offline (such as internet outages, or playing on a laptop during an airplane flight), he notes that the increased security, plus benefits like the above, outweigh those other concerns. "I want to play Diablo 3 on my laptop in a plane, but, well, there are other games to play for times like that." "

Guess that's one more game purchase i won't have to be worrying about.

    What do you guys think?

I personally don't play offline, so that's fine with me

Expected after the stunt acDivision pulled off with Starcraft 2. Also, I dare anyone from Blizzard to feed me bull**** that it's not acDivision's (or rather, Kotick's) decision.

As for the title itself - it's not like stuff like that didn't happen before. There are many talented gamehackers and crackers out there who are gonna be eager to provide this bad boy the way people want it to be. From a legitimate customer's standpoint, I find it offensive, but then again, the license doesn't sell you the game anymore, you're being licensed it. Slick law trick to make me give up the ability to do with the bought copy however I please.

The line between keeping gaming fun and making a strict business strategy out of it has been crossed with Starcraft 2. I'm never ever paying for a Blizzard (or any other acDivision published) game again. There are better developers (and publishers, for that matter) with much better content out there to support. Speaking of which, how's Modern Warfare 3 coming? ;)

You see, I bet the pirates are gonna slave away hunting for a workaround and when they finally do, people are gonna get illegitimate copies just to avoid the hassle of DRM. The whole purpose of this is to clearly cut down on pirated copies, but I don't think this is the right way to go about it. What is? I dunno. But not this.

I get Arcanite's point and I agree with it. I'll just bolt on the constant moaning about the lack of LAN features and now basically removing single player out of the spectrum.

What I'm getting at is that for some gamehackers/pirates adding on DRM is just another CrackMe they're not able to resist breaking.

I read another humerous article about not being able to play offline:
    http://techcrunch.com/2011/08/01/dia...-it-of-course/

I am actually fond of the idea of being able to sell items on the game for real money. I think it will give the older game hackers (the ones that aged out of D2), a reason to develop some new bots.

isnt it possible to make a very light weight (fake) server on your machine that mimics the output of the battle.net server and change your host file so that when the game asks for the server it goes to your (fake) server?

Botting is gonna be pretty lucrative in D3.

Cracks were available for sc2 for single player only, and will be available for d3 within few weeks.

I will just do two installs, one for cracked offline singleplayer and one for legit competitive online play.

Yeah but then blizz just rapes you with C&D order if they find out you're actively and publicly developing server emulation.

Well this is fked up, if i wanna run a piece of software on an open port on my box that is my fking business. As long as you do not charge for it. Zyn never got in trouble for oblivion and his hack raped all the hacks together.

You write a piece of software that allows thousands of gamers to not have to buy their game and play it for free, Blizzard will throw a bitch fit. They just want to protect their investments, in the most annoying way possible.

I can cause them as much financial damage as I want, it is part of the game, as long as it is "legal".

The Brits are already thinking of putting a stop to all this EULA copyright ****.

So, apparently this has nothing to do with DRM.

Total Bull****. I will not even consider buying diablo 3 if this doesn't change. Having to validate online is one thing, but not being able to play without an internet connection is bull****. I don't have a stable internet connection for about half the year and I'm not buying a full priced game with half the value.
