    Default Average DSL speeds

I was just wondering, what do you guys get for speed, just download. I know what I am saying is relatively broad, but I am not necessarily interested in specifying.

I know that this site is relatively ****ty, but please test your speeds and tell me what you get. Click here

Now, here is my dilemna, before I left for Germany, we had a different modem for our ADSL line, now I am back and we have a new modem and our internet is incredibly slower. I was just wondering what the avg mbps is supposed to be for an ADSL line.

My old tested speed from the website was something around 4.5 mbps, if i correctly interpreted it. I would download MSN messenger from their servers at about 700-800kbps, now I pull about 60kbps. Perhaps Microsoft capped their upload, but it seems in general with all my downloads that they top out at that speed. Plus, when I have multiple downloads they all total up to about 60kbps. Has my line been capped, I think so.

The first thing I did was call my ISP and talk to them about it, at this time my tested speeds were 400 something kilobits per second, they upped it a bit and now it is 700 something kilobits per second. (Excuse my newbishness.) Please get back to me so I know what the average is, so I can go to my isp and really get what my parents are paying for (in terms of DSL). Thanks

I inputted a search for "DSL speeds" and there was no thread directly relating to this question. I may be wrong, and if so, should be punished accordingly. Sorry in advance if I am wrong.

700-800 KBps is about 6 megabit.

700-800 kbps is less than a megabit.

I have 6 megabit cable, and I peak at 940 KBps, but average about 813 KBps from 2 threads. I get 580 max from a single thread. (Bad routing, I suppose).

I used to use Bellsouth XTreme DSL, which was advertised at 3 megabit down. I would average 312 KBps, until I got an upgrade to about 360. I stayed at 360, and for about 2 days I got another upgrade to 395, then went down to 360 again.

Thats what I get from the test. I live in UK with cable though, so I doubt that helped you at all.

Well, we are paying for a business line, so I would assume we should be getting at least some decent bandwidth. I think its highway robbery at the moment. Keep up the testing so I can get a decent average please. Thanks.

lol - kilobits? Didn?t you mean megabits?

I have 731 kilobits per second

    Edit:
    ISP T-Online (Germany) - DSL.
Shade, I don?t know where you have been, before you came back. I was living one year in Manhattan. There you have mostly cable connections (Roadrunner, ...). You can?t compare ADSL and cable. With cable you are very much faster.
Do you have WLAN or a Router? Probably you have to change your MTU.

If you're still using that E2 line you used to brag about, your maximum speeds would be 2 megabit up and down. I'm assuming you've changed providers since then?

    4000/354 at the moment.

Verizon laid down fiber optic cable down in my neighborhood 3 months ago, They are going to begin offering service with speeds around 15mbit down and 4mbit up for under $60 a month.

I still use E1 satelite conection which is tweaked by my provider (optus2 line with TGP) to max power
