    Default DNS optimizing

Downloads - namebench - Project Hosting on Google Code

Tests your current DNS against other publics such as OpenDNS and Google's DNS

    My results:
Google Public DNS is 48.3% Faster than your current primary DNS server

Google DNS was about 17 percent faster.

I've now switched to it. Wow, it really does make a difference.

Shouldn't everyone be using it? There are no downsides surely?

    no downsides

Also, not only does swapping give you a speed increase, but it also protects you from DNS cache corrupting trojans.

So, can somebody explain to me in plain man's terms what DNS does, how it affects me, and if/how I should change it?

when you type google.com into your browser your computer asks the DNS server what the ip is for google.com then the dns sends the good ip to you, your comp then asks to access that ip by sending the request to the internet, then google gives you the requested information

    I got a 294% Faster (Cox)

...But when I redo the test, I keep getting more and more "This is faster than this"

Should I constantly keep changing or should I just stick to one?

    Stfu.
    Why does DNS matter?
The DNS protocol is an important part of the web's infrastructure, serving as the Internet's phone book: every time you visit a website, your computer performs a DNS lookup. Complex pages often require multiple DNS lookups before they start loading, so your computer may be performing hundreds of lookups a day.

Why should you try Google Public DNS?
By using Google Public DNS you can:

    Speed up your browsing experience.
    Improve your security.
Get the results you expect with absolutely no redirection.
