Default Some Photos from my Archaeological Dig

Here is some pics from my Archaeological dig I am currently on. I have a break for today and I will be returning to the Tetons tomorrow morning.

This is where I was when I skype'd monki through satellite:

This is Stinking Springs Rock Shelter at the Tetons where we were excavating:

This is my 1m x 1m where I worked at 5 cm intervals, and found lots of faunal remains and obsidian flakes (we are currently doing the carbon dates and obsidian hydration):

15-17 US dollars an hour plus a stipend. Once I finish my degree it will a lump sums given by the government in the form of grants (hopefully.)

    Why that spot in particular?

Honestly, I don't mean to offend you by this at all. I just gotta ask.
Why would you go to school for something that pays $17 an hour with a possibility of financial insecurity later?

    Nice pics tho

if we all wanted money being a doctor/possibly a lawyer, politician, or a business person who exploits talented people would all be better choices than something computer related, art related. chancy business getting great money as a programmer from what i've seen, lots of hard work n long hours with sucky jobs.

in the local newspaper here i saw that doctors are in high demand right here, specially in rural areas, and just a family practice doctor is paying over 200k a year. the most i can really hope for in programming is leading a team and getting what, 130k a year, if my product sells well with alot of the money from bonus's? dont most programmers get paid like 40-60k a year? and even that has some high hours.

awesome if thats what your interested in, hows the fishing

Well we finally got done with the dig. After we were at the spot in the pictures we went to the wind river range and excavated a High Rise Village on Whiskey Mountain. There we found over 50 ancient lodges with a lot of artifacts. The bummer was I got sick with high altitude sickness and cerebral edema (water on the brain/swelling.) I will upload a few more pictures later of the dig up at High Rise Village. We also received a grant from National Geographic and will be in one of their upcoming editions (probably buried in the middle.)

We are studying mostly faunal remains to find out migration patterns and to see what the ancient people that lived there ate. We are also studying what the local predators ate as well; calculating human and predator patterns dating back to the early Pleistocene after the glacial ice receded in the area and the advent of modern humans in the area.

Exactly right kds. The money comes when I work for a CRM company as a field team leader or I get tenure from a university as a professor and museum curator. But it really isn't that much. Just right now while finishing my graduate work I will be making pretty much nothing, but I need to push through so I can do what I am passionate about.
