Default My Own PC Summer '08

    https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...le=AM2%2B+2008

I'm gonna be building a new PC this summer, and this is the beta list.
    List suggestions.

A lot of things have rebates, so be aware of that also.

    Things to keep in mind:
I'm replacing the following items in the list as they get released- I'm not buying this for quite a while.

    Phenom 9500 with 9150
    3870X2 with 4870/4870X2
    Motherboard with SB700 version
It's been a pretty long time since I've been here

If you ask me, that's a lot of money for not a comp that's not going to last too long.

The motherboard will last me through AMD's Bulldozer. 2009+
4GB RAM will last a while.
4870 is a generation above the Geforce 9s, as the G92 8800GTS already showed that the Geforce 9 was going to be a paper launch.
Hard Drive is as fast as a Raptor.
I fail to see your point.

Meanwhile, if I went with the Intel solution, LGA 775's current gen will have it's support dropped as soon as Nehalem comes out, doing away with FSB.
    Late '08/ Early '09

Imo, the Phenom will last me quite a while. Hell, I would keep using my 4200+ right now, if I had a better mobo.

My point is that a comp for $800-900 can do pretty much everything yours can. I'd rather wait for something innovative and impressive to come out in the market and spend money on that instead of spending money on technology that does the same **** it's been doing for the past 4 years, only slightly faster.

wait till amd comes out with a better version of their processers, since i bet they come out with somthing before summers over. and nvidia might have a few good 9 series cards out, id check them out a few days before you buy, just in case a really nice card has come out by then.

and personally, id buy a cheaper case unless you just have a ton of cash to waste, anything over 80$ just seems overboard to me, since 40$ ones seem just as nice. but its your choice

otherwise, all looks fairly good. lol

Yeah, I'm wondering if I should keep my 4200+ and go with a good 790FX, and AM2+s compatibility with AM3 will leave me room for Bulldozer.

You should buy a budget mobo like the Biostar TA770 (AMD 770 Chipset) or something and hook it up with an Athlon X2 6400+ and you'll be set for a while for under $300. Then all you need is ram, and 2gb of DDR2 800 is only like $50. Your 7600 GT can wait until the HD4000 and Geforce 10 series days.

    Yeah, I've revised my build.
    Damn, still costing 1200+ though.
    6400+
    Biostar 770
    4GB RAM
    Antec 900
    Tuniq Tower
750W PC Power & C _ Hoping to have this PSU last a while.
HD 4XXX, I'm hoping the 4870 will cost less than $450.
All of the a-holes at THG are yelling for me to get a Q6600. LGA 775 is a dead socket walking so idc.
If I go with a card at the 9600 price point, I'm looking at a $957 build. I bet I can shave more of that off later.

    Can't edit my last post...
I think now if the 45nm Shanghai Phenoms are out by June/July '08, then I'm going with those.

Everyone needs to stop telling people to wait for computer parts, oh this will be out in x amount of months. Then when blah arrives you will tell them to forget that, wait x more amount of months for this newer and better thing to come out.

It's a never ending cycle, cut it the hell out.

As for your stuff, it's decent, the green lights will suck with those red led fans you got though (I had a green light in my PSU, I ended up ripping the fan out and replacing it).
And you cheaped out on the mobo a bit to much in my opinion, other than that it's fine.

    It's a Biostar mobo, I don't trust or like Biostar mobo's.
They seem to cheaply made to me, and they look cheaply made as well.

Meh, a lot of people have good results with their mobos. The T-Force series are higher-end. Most of the ones with bad reviews are cheap mATX mobos. My ASUS board that I have now probably sucks more than even some of the cheapest boards out there.

Not everyone in the world is as rich as you.

And what justifies you trash-talkin' about Biostar? They make very good AM2/AM2+ budget boards (better than any other company as far as I can see).

I am not rich, and what trash talking? I expressed my opinion on how I think the boards are cheaply made, look cheaply made and feel cheaply made.

Now if I said Biostar sucks big monkey nuts and takes it up the ass, thats trash talking. I was simply stating that I think they're cheap pieces of junk. I prefer Gigabyte and DFI.

Honestly, I don't think the manufacturer of a motherboard really matters. It usually just depends on the Chipset and BIOS.
Some manufacturers are associated with using better chipsets, and subsequently assumed to be better board makers.
This is not always true-and it goes both ways- with "Lower Quality" manufacturers making good boards and "Higher Quality" manufacturers making bad boards.
I've decided that I'm definitely going to avoid the mistakes I made with my last build, so not as much holding back.

I think it would be better to get 2 500gb HDD's instead of the 1TB HDD.
This way if your HDD fails you don't loose all of your data and it also leaves you with another HDD to run off of so you don't have to wait to go buy one or have one shipped to you. Or at least get a second smaller HDD to backup all of your most important files.

Nah, I think RAID is a pain to set up -with the driver issues sometimes. Plus, I'm getting the ES.2 version of the drive, meaning it's server-grade.

You don't even need to RAID. Just get two drives for redundancy (Get 2x 500 GB ES.2's)

Store your important files on the other drive, while the main drive is used for your OS, games, etc.

He's right about the risk of data loss: even though the 1 TB is an ES.2, it's one drive. If it fails, all of your data is probably gone.
