Do you mean extract?

.tar.gz probably means its a driver for linux.

Either way, WinRAR can handle .tar.gz files. .tar.gz is an archive.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize that this was in the Linux forum.

Winrar (program) decompression speed/compatibility > 7zip (program) decompression speed/compatibility

Also, 7zip is only available as a command-line tool for linux.

Usually it just runs it and then installs it like a setup.exe file or something whenever I run those...

Yes, you have to compile them. You should just have to use the Make All command.

So? Those are linux based, what is your problem?.cpp and .h are C++ source files, it really has nothing to do with linux.

take the tar file: tarfile.tar.gz

open a terminal and issue the following commands:

cd <your download directory, or where the tar file is>
mkdir -p ~/src/
mv tarfile.tar.gz ~/src/.
cd ~/src
tar -xvf tarfile.tar.gz
cd tarfile (this will be the same name as your tar file, it will have unzipped everything into a newly made directory, cd to that dir name)
./configure
make
su
<enter root's password here>
make install
exit
exit

that will do it

dont worry if configure fails btw. If make fails, post the results.

Tempest... He might have to use Gcc to compile it if it is just a bunch of source files.. Then he will have to make it... But if makeing it dont work just post back and ill try to give you some support.
