Fluoride: Preventing tooth decay with poison?

Fluoride is bad for your health. It is classified as toxic waste, as it is a by-product of the aluminum industry. Even if it is beneficial to have in tooth paste, the chemical is unhealthy to ingest. It causes bone loss and brain damage. The dosage we are exposed to increases all the time through the products we eat which are made with fluoridated water.

When I was in elementary school they practically forces us to swish fluoride twice a week.

Why does the ADA continue to advocate use of fluoride to prevent and reduce cavities when it can be adversely affecting the health of millions of Americans?

Why doesn't the media inform the public. If they don't, the vast majority will continue to see negative health affects. Fluoridation of water is only 150 years old, with more generations exposed to this poison, there is no way to tell how seriously the neurological affects will cripple our children's children.

My town doesn't have it though.

Just get tooth paste without flouride.

The amount that is in toothpaste and other things is very very small though. I wouldn't really worry about it. There are much worse things in every day products we use that are far worse then a little bit of fluoride.

You still absorb some of it through your mucous membranes when you brush.

I'm allergic to fluoride so I have always used fluoride free toothpaste and my teeth are just fine...

My friend that lives up the street has one of those huge tanks of water things that go on a machine that makes it cold/hot? I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. But I remember him telling me that the water had flouride in it... I also remember the water tasting kind of nasty...

i want to agree, but do you really want to give people something that could make them stupider, i mean your making stupid people even stupider. It's kind of frightening thinking of a future filled with even more stupid people.

now think of the other way, if we/many people hadnt grown up ingesting fluoride daily, perhaps we may have been that much smarter, and contributed more to humanity.

I'm kind of glad I drank so much water with fluoride, because I have a bad habit of not brushing my teeth as much as i should, and I really think my teeth would look like an English beggar on the streets of London without it.

The problem is that fluoride is only effective (in helping teeth) when used topically. That is, when it actually has contact with teeth. It is also most harmful to us when it is ingested, and makes contacts with all of our organs, that don't need fluoride.


Also, the amount of fluoride from any one source is not harmful. It is because everything is a source of fluoride that it's a problem. Water, toothpaste, food, all containing fluoride means people are getting more fluoride than they need.

As for getting a filter. That's a problem as well. Most filters make sure to leave the 'beneficial' fluoride in the water, and most of them make sure to have that very apparent on the packaging. So the standard Brita-type filters that remove the standard crap form water(lead, dirt, particles, etc.) do not remove fluoride. The filters that do remove fluoride do not remove the other crap.

Do you know why they started using iodized salt and how much a year it costs them to do it?

I just looked for anything about them regulating the amount of fluoride in water/toothpaste etc and there is none! companies can put as much as they want if it isn't intended to be consumed.
