Quite right, there's a new patch out it seems (and has been for some times, I haven't played StarCraft in a while). I will update the CD KEY-NUMBER Grabber once I find my darned SC CD case. (Tomorrow, maybe.)

Your pretty much stuck there buddy. Just buy a new copy of SC. If you had the game installed on your computer you would have had a chance to recover your key, but you don't even have SC on your comp.

Install it with a fake CD-Key (all 3s afaik works), and copy the mpq which contains the cdkey(afair stardat.mpq) to the SC Directory. Without stardat.mpq or the cdkey you have no chance.

If your using XP, you can also use my Cobra Spoofer as a CD Key grabber, you'll have to be patched to the latest version of SC though. :x And it probably has to be BW, not sure if it works with regular SC.

I tried the CD key grabber on Windows Vista, but I couldn't get it to work. I then tried to get the key manually using ArtMoney Pro. I just installed Starcraft with a dummy key, connected to a server(without logging in), and searched for the key text in memory(no dashes). The offsets that worked were different than the ones that were in the key grabber code.

0x12FCF0 and 0x12FDD0 contained a pointer to the 13 byte CD Key.
0x12FCF4 and 0x12FDD4 contained a pointer to the registered name.

This worked on Windows Vista Home Basic using the Original Starcraft vers. 1.15.2.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: BTW, the 'StarDat.mpq' file in your Starcraft folder contains the CD key. If you don't save this file, you can't get the key.

Interesting, thank you for your report. I haven't moved to Vista yet, but realistically the offsets should still be the same (unless Vista 64-bit uses an emulator for 32-bit applications with a zero address other than \0). That wouldn't really make any sense though when looking at your offsets.

May I inquire as to which version of StarCraft you're using (as in what language)? I'm using the UK English version. I haven't actually tried the grabber with StarCraft Original, but I'm quite sure the offsets were the same for Original and Brood War in the last patch (although this could've changed of course).

As for the name registered, I don't know really get of what use that functionality would be, but it would be very easy to implement if you really want it. I won't update the actual program until I've been able to verify this myself and/or I've been given more info. I can't verify it at the moment, as I don't have my CDs here.

Still, I'd like to know what version of StarCraft you're playing (ie is it the UK English or US English or what?). I'd also like to hear if anyone else is having problems getting it to work (I guess not or people are getting really lazy with only 1 complaint in more than 1000 downloads (and more than 3000 of the previous version)).

The reason it's different is because it changes from windows version. 200 and XP are on Windows NT 5; Vista is on Windows NT 6. This wouldn't be a problem normally but you are reading a memory address that's the stack of starcraft.

In that case, just omit "Brood War" in the strings in the above example and change "Original" to "Vista" or something. I guess I could try to find a pointer to the beginning of the stack and then do it relative to that or something. Or even call the actual function that extracts the CD-key or something, but not today.
