Ok, I'm about sick of all these threads about Latency Issues/Can't join Games/Can't Host Games, etc. Plus my wanderings into OTS (Open Tech Support) and helping some idiot who doesn't know if he has a router or not.
With my Newby Skills, I will try to create a working guide for all you idiots out there that have no searching Skills.
This Guide is for: Opening Ports mainly and some Newby Issues.
To use this guide to its full potential you must:
-Understand how to use a Computer on the basic level
-Common Sense i.e Know what a Firewall, Router, Modem are
-Know whether or not this guide is for you, if you read this far and have no idea. Leave please.
Step I: Identifying the Problem
A) I have a Firewall
B) I have a Router
C) My Computer Sucks
Note: Things that can cause Latency Issues
A) Firewall
B) Router
C) ****ty Computer
(See a Connection yet?)
How do we fix it?
A) For Firewalls, first find out if you have a firewall first. Then before you go into games or startup Starcraft, disable it. If that's beyond you, give up in life. What if I don't have a Firewall? Make sure you know what a Firewall is and check for them. Examples of Firewalls: Norton, ZoneAlarm, McAfee. If you have WinXP, I suggest turning off the built in Firewall by: Going to Start => Control Panel => Network and Internet Connections => Windows Firewall (And click on "Off") or Change Firewall Settings. Hey what if that didn't work? Then you don't have a Firewall problem.
B) For Routers, first find out if you have a Router. A router connects multiple computers to each other on a Network. Now that you know you have a Router, then find the Brand and model numbers/letters on it. Then go to http://portforward.com/routers.htm and look up your Model brand with Numbers and Letters. Follow their instructions, afterwards if you still can't then you're Screwed or you Screwed up somewhere along the way go back and double check. If your Router is not on the List there then use Google and search for the homepage of the company that made your Router, when you get there look up Technical Support and see if you can get your hands on a Guide or Manual online. Here are a few Walkthroughs of how to do a couple of the Routers.
D-Link: What is this? A guide to do it already? Wow... http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.as...tion=starcraft
Westell Versalink 327W (Verizon DSL Modem/Router): Wait, another guide? http://portforward.com/westell/Versa...forwarding.htm
A general rule for which ports to open for Starcraft:Blizzard Technical Support Site with information in this subject of routers and firewalls (Bet you didn't know it was there, hehe): http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=msi0445pAllow port 6112-6119 TCP and UDP out and in
C) A ****ty Computer can cause you to Lag. What to do? Get a better Computer, don't got the Money? Ask your Parents for one or get a Job. To lazy? Don't bitch about it.
Hopefully this Guide will help some Idiot in the future, if you have any specific problems that the above doesn't solve and can give me information to help you then I will try to fix your problem.
Needed:
1. Proper Coherant English
2. Understanding that I will blatanly not give a **** if it is there on that site and you are too lazy or stupid.
3. Router Brand: Full Name and Model Number
4. Understanding that I don't live @BWHacks.com if I don't get a reply back to you I am either working on it or refer to Number 2
5. Common Sense
