Default router problem. (connecting to Xbox live)

I can't seem to be able to connect my Xbox to the router In just bought, get the following error when I try to connect:

The dns servers could not be reached.
    Check these possible options:
    - If your xbox console is connected directly to your modem, verify the DNS servers settings match the settings provided by your ISP.
    - If your Xbox console is connected to a router, verify the DNS servers settings are set to automatic.
There isn't a problem with my modem (I can cojnnect straight to that and it wors fine), and I dont know **** about routers so I am really lost.

Is there something I need to config on the router or something?

I've been trying all day and I just can't figure it out.

Does anyone know what I have to do to fix this?

    [ internet connection = cable ]
    [ router = D-link 2.4GHz di-524 wireless router ]

My friend had a similar problem. He just unplugged the Router everytime he wanted to play. I'm assuming you've checked their Tech Support both D-Link and Xbox Live (I dont have a Console, so I wouldnt know if Xbox Live had a tech support, but I assume they do)

Other then that I cant help you much with it, I'll ask some other people around at school if they have encountered it or I'll look around abit.

Maybe upgrade your routers firmware, and give it a power cycle. (restart router and modem)

Also, you might want to try resetting the router if you don't mind losing the data you stored on it, there should be a reset button on the back of it sunken in a bit.
    This space still for rent.
