flame rendering tutorial

ok ill make this as easy and simpple as i possibly can but no promises

first off ill remind people what this tutorial will show you how to make


now this wont teach you how to make that exact picture, infact this tutorial will produce a unique picture created by mostly your cpu,

step 1: download apophysis http://www.apophysis.org/downloads.html and select the 2.02 which is what ill be using in the screen shots

step 2: unpack and open the exe
upon opening the exe your computer will randomly produce 100 thumbnails and you can scroll through them on the side and choose one that fits you teh most


step3: once you find teh one you liek press that green play button to let your computer swoop throu the possible stop points of that current render, once you find a good spot in it click out of the little play window


ok cool now we have a start point

step4: now if you arent quiet satisfied by what youve gotten dont give up yet, now we are going to "mutate" the image to something wierd, this is optional along with all of these steps
so now you can click that mutate button and if you want to you can choose one of the mutations or leave it alone and close the window



ok now that youve mutated your image to a bit closer to what you want its time to fine tune your creation

step5: this is where the program is nice for you guys cuz now you get to play with triangles instead of doing crazy algorithms like i do, go ahead and click the red and yellow triangle button called the editor, this will open a window with triangles on the left, go ahead and drag these around, if you wish to rotate or shrink or enlarge these triangle simply use shift or alt to change size and rotate and use ctrl to reverse the effect and click the triangle you wish to transorm



ok cool now you have fine tuned it, now its time to go a step further and add special effect

step6: now we can do some math but you wont have to do any of it all your going to do is change numbers, now all of teh effects we are going to play with have specific names which describe what they will do....for the most part. now in your editor window on the right side click on variations or vars2 these have all your special effects, go ahead and put in numbers....small numbers ussually less then 5, sometime less then 1 or your image will distort greater then the base equation and disapear and we dont want that



once your done playing with your creation go ahead and close out of the editor, now you probably want to add your unique taste in color on to this crazy thing

step7: color time! and no its not going to be difficult you wont have to manually color like on paint, simply press teh gradient button and in teh window on the drop down menu select what color scheme you want and then feel free to rotate it around with the scroll bar to place your color in just the right spot



ta da now we have your picture almost completed, now your asking well what does it look liek full size, and you probably dont want to wait for the 30 minute render, no problem you can get a rough guess of what it looks like by pressing CTRL+F which will do a speed render and give you a full screen view, then you can press space to exit the screen

keep in mind this is not what your picture will look like

step8: the final step phew! i know hard work, lol try using what i use lol ok heres how you render this, click the gear button called render and in teh open window type in the path of where you want the image to go and the size, as for quality set it at 900 or 300 either look nice its whatever your style is expiriment, and for oversample i ussualy set at 4 only because the more you have the longer the render takes, once everything is set click render and wait for the parabolic count down timer to finish and when its done go open your picture and look at your first rendered masterpice yay! oh and make sure that when setting up the rendering that you dont exceed your available memory or your computer will lock up and be unusable during the render process and the approx memory usage is ussually shy by 100mb

It's a good tutorial, but perhaps you should thumbnail/link to the images rather than posting them in full size, for the sake of legibility.

no compialation of binary code is worth money, its easily duplicated and altered from its original writting and therefore not kenny vs spenny any more, its damn close but a few lines of binary have been altered during the sharing process

does that program rely on your cpu to render it or your gpu.

i assume your cpu, im wondering if theres a cuda program out like this or something to speed rendering up.

it does use your cpu when making the initial random 100 batches, but after that your GPU takes over and renders the thumbnail pic and your GPU does the final render

awesome, does it work with sli and does it benefit from any professional drivers(like the quadro drivers) that you know of?

and it has support for 64bit win7 probaly?

it supports 64 bit ops, but this specific program is extremely basic and your lucky it utilizes your gpu for rendering, not sure if it uses sli or quadro ill definatly look into it though, i know it definatly uses a lot of gpu memory though so it may use sli
